Hey friends, how are you all? hope you guys enjoyed the weekend very well. Well as for me, it was great and splendid. I went to so many places, met with so many people and i must confess that i really had some fun. I’m just writing this post to tell you guys one of the things that happened to me over the weekend which was a Job Offer. Although, its not a big deal, i only want to know what you think about my response.
It was on Friday the 5th day of October, my uncle who is a branch manager of one of the most successful bank in Nigeria….. First Bank Nig plc called me and invited me to his house which is outside the state i live in. Initially i thought there is a problem and that made me to hurry to meet him. It takes 3 hours to get to where he lives from my own state of residence, but to my utmost surprise, when i got there, it was a job offer.
He told me that there is a vacant in his branch and that he knew i can handle the job, i didn’t border to ask him the position or how much the pay will be, but because that is the last news i want to hear now, i immediately and bluntly turned down the offer and he got angry with me.
Now, its not that i hate the Job or that i want something bigger. The issue is that after my first work experience when i worked as a companies manager, i made up my mind not to work again. The reason i got the job in the first place is for me to gain some experience so i can be able to run my own business. All my life, I’ve wanted to be an entrepreneur.
I’ve been looking for freedom and not security. Click to tweet
I know this may sound stupid to some of you, but its true. I never wanted to end up making someone else rich, someone that doesn’t even appreciate all my efforts. I know that i can still use that same strength and knowledge to run my own business. I never wanted to follow someone else rules, i want to make my own rules.
I strongly believe that any think the mind can conceive, believe……….It can achieve. Click to tweet
I know most of you would have accepted the offer, but i don’t think it’s for me. I’m not saying that being an employee is bad, but its not for everyone just like being an entrepreneur is never for everyone. But we all have to check out the column we want to fall in and now is the time to make that decision. It will all begin with our mindset.
If you think you can make it as an employee or as an entrepreneur, then go for it. Don’t wait for anybody’s permission before you make that first attempt, you need to convince your self, motivate your self and then take your first step. Remember, you must not have all the answers before you start, if you keep waiting for all the answers, you will never start. Starting now is your best course.
Finally, just evaluate your strength and weakness, know the area you should improve on that will help you to achieve your goal. Set your goals, map out a plan that you will take to achieve them and then find a mentor that will guide you along the way. Remember when you fail, stand up and keep moving until you reach your desired goal, then keep repeating the same process.
Thanks and have a great week.
Now tell me what you think about my decision, was it right or wrong? What do you want to be………An employee or an Entrepreneur? Why?
Please remember to Tweet and Shear this post with your friends if you found it useful.

Hi Theodore
Sounds like you’ve got a bit of a dilemma on your hands there.
It may have been worth hearing your uncle out about the position in the bank.
If you are making enough money though as an entrepreneur then I say go for it.
If not then you could always consider your uncle’s offer and work on your entrepreneurial skills in your spare time until you are making enough money.
I guess another deciding factor would be whether you wanted to move so far away from where you currently live.
I don’t envy you but stick with your decision of being an entrepreneur and see where it takes you.

Absolutely Tim,
Its not as if I’m currently making it big as an entrepreneur, but i have some plans and one of the reason why i turned down the offer is because i wanted to focus on myself full time without distractions.
My parents are both civil servant and i know how it feels like living from pay to paycheck, that’s totally not the kind of life i dream of my man.
Thanks for your concern though, you’re a friend.

It’s hard to want to work for someone else when you have been on your own. You made right decision.
I had an interview on last week and I told the interviewer about my minimum salary requirement. My friend said I should have asked for more. Uh, my goal is to work PT with enough pay to cover my expenses so I can work my business. I don’t want more hours, I don’t want more money, and I definitely don’t want the responsibilities that will come with asking for more money.
So, I’m with you. Follow your heart.

Thanks for the relief Marcie,
I really appreciate those encouraging words of yours, it shows I’m not alone.
Thanks.

Hi Theodore,
If I were in your shoes, I would have most likely grabbed that position and continued with my online blogging in my free time. But of course, I am me and you are you, we have different choices to make that we think is the best for us, and the decisions we usually make are geared towards making us happy and contented with our lives.
I agree that it is a great thing to happen in our lives when we do not have to work for someone else and go about our own way on how to make our living in this world.
I wish you all the best in your blogging endeavors, and I believe that soon you will be able to achieve your goals in the online world.
Don’t think that the decision you made was wrong, instead think of it as a challenge and prove to your uncle that you are better off finding your own way on how to earn.
Thank you very much for writing this article! Looking forward to your next post 🙂

What an encouraging words Johanna,
Hmmmmm, you’ve made my day. Just like you said, i have my reason for rejecting the offer.
One being that i want to be on my own. I know it will not be that easy for me but A journey of a thousand mile starts with a step and nothing in life is easy too.
Thanks for your kind prayers and i also wish you success and unmerited favour in your online and offline career.
Lets succeed together.

I am with you Theodore, I actually don’t want to become employed by someone else’s company because I hate rules and regulations. I understand why you rejected the offer and I think you have made a good choice. 🙂
Nwangene Theodore says
Thanks a lot Maris,
I really appreciate your encouragement. Thanks for stopping by, hope to see you here again.

Hmm, that was really a tempting offer there, right?
Well, at first I said to myself you should have gone for it and work on your business until thing improve. But then reading your responses to the comments I realized this is a decision you have made before now and that really is what matters. Know what you are going for and stay focus on it.
Besides, I know how involved working in the bank is. You may even end up not having time for your business. So, I will say you have made the right choice. It’s only left for you to prove it to your uncle that you know what you are doing.
Nwangene Theodore says
Thanks for the advice Chadrack and welcome back to my blog,
Yea, I’ve worked before when i did my Industrial Training, i was working as the companies manager then and i know what i went through in the process. That is not what i want to experience again friend.
Thanks for coming, hope to see you around.

I don’t think about it. But I did let him into a park with a lot of tourists thinking they’d be more charmed by his begging. It’s very possible that he lived a full life of being hand fed.
